A grout colour refresh is an appearance project for suitable existing joints. It may be worth discussing when the grout remains sound but you want a more consistent shade or a different relationship between tile and joint colour. Start with the condition and desired finish before selecting a colourant.
Check the existing surface
Include photographs, tile identification and any known grout or sealer names. Tell the assessor about prior coatings, cleaning methods and recurring stains. Report powdery, cracked or missing grout separately rather than treating it as part of the colour choice.
Ask whether the selected colourant is compatible with the existing material and what preparation its manufacturer requires. Prior sealer or another coating can change that preparation. The stains and discolouration guide helps distinguish the questions to address first.
Approve a representative colour
Use the colour-selection guide to narrow the direction, then review a physical reference beside the actual tile. Discuss the final area as a whole, including adjoining rooms and any visible transitions.
Ask for an approved sample and agree on the intended result once it has dried. Record the product, colour code and surfaces it applies to. A digital swatch can support the discussion, but it should not be the sole record of your final approval.
Define the area and preparation
The written scope should identify the joints to be treated, preparation, protection of tile faces and adjacent finishes, application and cleanup. Include thresholds, niches and other details that might otherwise be missed.
Clarify whether grout repairs are required first and whether flexible sealant receives separate work. A colour treatment should not be presented as replacing missing joint material or resolving a concealed moisture problem. Any additional repair needs its own explanation and approval.
Plan access and downtime
Tell the contractor about occupied-room requirements, pets and the availability of another bathroom. Arrange access after the materials and schedule have been confirmed; avoid applying a new cleaning or sealing treatment beforehand.
The recolouring tutorial explains the process at an educational level. Preparation, application and exposure timing depend on the actual product and conditions.
Keep the finish specification
At completion, review coverage and transitions against the approved sample and scope under normal lighting. Record any remaining differences rather than assuming the whole room was intended to match an untouched adjoining surface.
Request compatible cleaning instructions and the relevant return-to-use guidance. Keep product and colour records for future maintenance. A HAUSE inquiry organizes these decisions; it does not confirm a quotation, availability or booking until the project has been assessed and agreed.
